About Inter LineaInter Linea began in 1999 as The Journal of Osteopathic Philosophy. It ended publication in 2002 after 12 issues. This website is the latest incarnation of Inter Linea. It is a 21st Century manifestation of the science and art of Osteopathy. The title for this website comes from the Latin phrase, Inter Linea (IN-ter Lin-Ay-a) which means, in between the lines. William Sutherland, DO asked for us to “read in between the lines” of A. T. Still’s writings to gain greater knowledge and insight into the essence of Osteopathy. Sutherland said, “. . . thinking Osteopathy means thinking with Dr. Still, and in so doing one may think between the lines of his printed texts . . .” Dr. Sutherland created the phrase, interlinear thinking, to describe a type of introspective and intelligent way of interpreting the science and art of Osteopathy. Inter Linea is now a website devoted to exploring the philosophy of Osteopathy. Our mission is not to become just historians blindly detailing events of the past, but to become explorers discovering new ways to understand and interpret Osteopathy. Inter Linea is not a technique driven project. There are plenty of venues oriented exclusively to Osteopathic techniques or procedures. Inter Linea is a resource center committed to providing the international Osteopathic community with an opportunity to expand ones understanding and application of essential Osteopathic philosophy and core principles. Inter Linea is an international expression of 21st Century Osteopathy. Osteopathy is now a world wide system of healing with DO’s in dozens of countries throughout the world. Inter Linea speaks to all Osteopaths as a forum for sharing diverse thought, expressing common ideas, and expanding awareness. Join us and spread the word, the true voice of Osteopathy originates from our rich and fertile philosophy. Steve Paulus, DO The Structure of Inter LineaInter Linea is part Osteopathic Resource Center and part online “zine” or magazine. It is freely available to any individual interested in Osteopathy but it is primarily directed to the international Osteopathic community. We do not accept paid advertising and the funding for this effort is private and independent. Inter Linea is not affiliated with any professional society or Osteopathic institution. We encourage feedback regarding the website. If you find text that needs editing or wish to make any additions, please contact Steve Paulus, DO at steve@interlinea.org or mail questions/comments to:
